Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer Red Carpet Event
On June 4, 2011, I went to the Arclight Theatre in Hollywood to go to the red carpet event for Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. I went there with 2 other girls as a group to do the interviews with the celebrities. I was nervous at first, but it turned out to be the greatest time of my whole life. It was really a special day to go to the movie premiere.
First, we did some news reporting for our program, LaJaJa (La-Ya-Ya) Kids. We had to say hi, then state what we are doing, where we were reporting from, and who was involved. It was just like movieshooting, saying one sentence and then saying it over and over again. It was really like a real news reporter.
Second, we got to interview the actors and their friends who were invited. There were over 100 people attended. I asked everyone questions about summer plans, and it was just the best. I liked it, but there were a lot of people we was supposed to interview but we couldn’t, like Jaleel White. He was really funny and plays Mr. Todd in the movie. I was going to also ask him about Family Matters, another of his showings.
We interviewed movie stars and celebrities that we didn’t even know, and we also interviewed people we met before. We took turns. I interviewed Megan McDonald (Writer), Parris Mosteller (Stink), and Jordana Beatty (Judy Moody) a month ago, and I saw them again over there. I got the chance to interview the Writer, and Parris. Another girl interviewed Jordana.
Finally, we got to watch the movie. It was really funny. It is about Judy Moody planning dares to do over the summer. Then she tries to challenge her friends Rocky and Amy to a thrill point contest over the summer. A few of her dares were surfing in a wave, riding a scary rollercoaster, and watching a horror movie. Judy almost thought that she lost because she got bad luck in the movie, but she ends up winning. It is the best movie in my whole life too.
After the movie, we were invited to an after movie party. All the props from the movie were being transferred to the party as decorations, such as the super van, Aunt Opal’s workshop, the Big Foot statue and the frog. They even made a surfing ride for us to try out. It was a lot of fun going there.

On Sunday, May 1, 2011, I went to the L.A. times festival of books as a journalist for an interview of the movie Judy Moody and the not Bummer Summer. I have met actors Jordana Beatty which plays Judy Moody, Parris Mosteller, who plays Stink, and the author of the Judy Moody Books, Megan McDonald. It was great, and I am making a post-paragraph on the interview.
I have liked the interview because it was very good to do something that a lot of people don’t get to do. The actor and actress were very nice and friendly, but their roles don’t seem as friendly. It was very good that it did not ruin their minds. I saw that the actors looked differently in the movie than in real life. It is also a little bit of a mystery because of the actors’ hair styles make you don’t know who you’re going to meet over at the interviewing place. It was also very nice to meet them and ask questions like these:
Q: What was life-changing when you filmed this movie?
Jordana: Well, I’m from Australia, and when I came here, it was life-changing.
Q: Where was the movie filmed (not my question)?
Megan McDonald: Right here, in L.A.!
Q: How did you get Stink to spit out the green vomit in the roller coaster scene in the trailer?
Jordana: Ok, that wasn’t Stink’s role. That was actually Judy Moody’s friend. They put yogurt, blue food coloring, cereals, some other chemicals, and all these other stuff and it went into a bottle. Then on the roller coaster scene, the kid had to have the right time to drink the liquid, and then spit it out on me. It was really disgusting. Also, the roller coaster was in Six Flags, where the roller coaster was going straight up. I’m also afraid of heights, which I had to pretend I wasn’t scared. It was scary!
Q: During the filming of this movie, did you and the other actors become friends and do things together off the set? If so, what did you do?
Jordana: Well, we played cards, and games, and it was very fun.
Q: How close are the events to those in the book? Are there things in the film that aren’t in the book, and vice versa? And why?
Megan: Well, I just gathered events from the whole series, and that seemed to work out.
Q: What inspires you to make a movie out of a storybook?
Megan: Well, there was a movie producer that read all my books to her daughter, and she had just had the idea to make a Judy Moody movie.
It was definitely nice to interview the actors. Normal people just want their autograph, and they leave. Just meeting actors and getting their autograph is a big thing, but getting to interview them is a bigger thing. It was something that a lot of people don’t get to do, and it was nice. I look forward to seeing the film. The movie must be great. It will be a day and experience that I will remember in my life.
