原來除了華人以外，好多不同族裔人士都熱愛划龍舟這項運動，而長灘龍舟節已經成為一年一度南加州的運動盛事。雖然舉行日期不在傳統的端午節，但是熱鬧刺激的比賽氣氛在暑假更是激烈。
這個週末將有超過一百隊的龍舟健兒出賽，每隊20人加鼓手和舵手，光是參賽者就有兩千多人，場面絕對十分熱鬧！會場還有不同的展商和美食攤位，舞台上更有魔術、中國雜技、少林功夫、日本太鼓、舞蹈等精彩演出，實在很適合帶一家大小一去觀賞。

The Dragon Boat Festival is a great place to experience the liveliness of Chinese Culture. Though it does not take place on the actual day of the festival marked on the Chinese calendar, the Long Beach Festival celebrates the tradition with many booths for families to eat and play in and the opportunity to watch Dragon Boats race across the beach.
Cheer for your favorite dragon boat team at the Long Beach International Dragon Boat Festival! Though it is not on the actual day of the traditional festival, the Long Beach Festival offers a lively environment to spend your weekend. The beach is filled with tents that offer recreational games and food. Music from popular bands and artists play from the stage accompanied by performances that reflect the Chinese culture. In heat of the festival, dragon boat drums roar as the boats fly through the water!
Today, the dragon boat festival is more of an event than what it traditionally represented. Centuries ago, the festival was held to honor the death of a scribe whose ideas opposed authority. Because of the scribe’s defamatory libel, he was exiled from his country and hunted down. He soon gave up his life by jumping into the river. Every year on that day, those who wish to honor the scribe paddle up the river in dragon boats and throw zhong zi overboard to keep the fish from feasting on the scribe’s dead body.
Today, the dragon boat festival has evolved to exciting celebrations that range from dragon boat racing to zhong zi eating. Join us at Long Beach to experience what the traditional dragon boat festival has become today! The Festival will take place on July 26 to 27 at Marine Stadium, Long Beach. Make sure you bring your family for a fun-packed day!
