主角为一只名叫辛巴的幼獅，它將從父親木法沙中繼承榮耀石的王位。但在辛巴的叔叔刀疤（木法沙嫉妒心極強的弟弟）謀殺木法沙後，辛巴被誤導認為自己應對父親的死負責並開始流亡。在和另外兩個流浪者的照顧下，辛巴逐漸成長，最後在兒時好友娜娜和他的萨满拉飛奇的啟迪下，重回榮耀石來挑戰刀疤以結束他的暴政，並重奪他在「生命的循環」中應有的王位。
