SUMMARY:Live Coverage at Disney Live! Mickey and Minnie's Doorway to Magic (Long Beach)
Disney Live! Mickey and Minnie's Doorway to Magic. 330 East Seaside Way\, Long Beach\, CA 90802. \n\nFloating lanterns! \nCITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA\n\n\nSaturday\, January 20 at 1:00 & 4:00 PM\nSunday\, January 21 at 1:00 & 4:00 PM\n4000 Ontario Center Parkway\, Ontario\, CA 91764\n\n\nPurchase Tickets: https://www.disneylive.com/mickey-and-minnies-doorway-to-magic\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAZsplIiRho\n

SUMMARY:CSArts-SGV presents All School Musical "Pippin" on 1/11~1/13
DESCRIPTION:CSArts-SGV presents "Pippin" Musical on 1/11~1/13\n\n\n\nThree Shows: Thursday - Saturday\, Jan. 11-13\, 2018 at 7 p.m.\n\nCalifornia School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley continues its inaugural year with a charismatic\, all-school performance of the esteemed musical “Pippin.” Filled with dance\, humor and soaring songs by Stephen Schwartz (“Corner of the Sky\,” “Magic to Do” and “Glory”)\, “Pippin” tells the story of a young person’s journey to find his place in the world. The ensemble cast offers growth and performance opportunities for the school’s many talented young actors\, dancers\, musicians and singers across the school’s conservatories. This original production is set with a unique and imaginative steampunk aesthetic\, offering a relevant edge and visceral quality that will leave the audience questioning what it truly means to be extraordinary.\n\nDates: January 11th through 13th (Thursday ~ Saturday)\n\nTime: 7:00pm\n\nLocation: Arcadia Performing Arts Center\, 188 Campus Dr\, Arcadia\, CA 91007\n\nTickets: purchase online at www.sgv.csarts.net/boxoffice or at the door on show nights\n\nAdults $25 online and $27 at the door\n\nStudent $18 online and $20 at the door\n\nCSArts-SGV brings together its own collaborative team of talented artists to lead the production\, including co-directors Jay Wallace\, chair of theatre\, and Megan Mekjian\, English teacher and graduate of sister-school Orange County School of the Arts’ Musical Theatre Conservatory. The team also includes Alison Dambach\, chair of dance; Jeffrey de Seriere\, director of the Instrumental Music Conservatory; Graham Jackson\, Musical Theatre Conservatory teacher; and Kimberly Mitchell\, director of the Production & Design Conservatory.\n\n\n\nStudents have the exclusive opportunity to learn from Erik Altemus\, an original cast member of the 2013 Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of “Pippin\,” during a master class and rehearsals leading up to the show.\n\nCo-director Wallace says “Pippin” was selected as the school’s first musical because it offers a chance for originality\, freshness and creative opportunity. “I wanted something with a bit of flare and energy\, but that also has an undercurrent of substance and relevance. To a certain extent\, ‘Pippin’ is a blank canvas. This show allows us to craft our own unique impression and perspective of the universal story of the search for one’s voice and purpose in life.”\n\nCSArts-SGV frames the musical through the lens of steampunk\, which began as a subgenre of science fiction/fantasy that featured 19th century steam-powered technology being used during Victorian times. Set during modern day\, the show incorporates core elements of steampunk to conceptualize character and the world of the acting troupe at the center of the show. The play’s exploration continues a year-long study of the steampunk genre\, offering artistic opportunities for students in every conservatory. Students were introduced to the genre during a master class by its originators Tim Powers and James Blaylock. In addition to the performers onstage\, Visual Arts Conservatory students participate in a steampunk art exhibit in the lobby and Production & Design Conservatory students create the costumes\, props\, lighting and set design for the show. The program book includes steampunk letters written by Creative Writing Conservatory students.\n\n“The performance reflects the mission of the Musical Theatre Conservatory to be an “ensemble growing together as artists and individuals\,” says Wallace. “We are challenging students from all conservatories to experience a distinct level of growth throughout the process\, both as performers and leaders. We want to instill and nurture an appreciation of professionalism as well as risk-taking.”\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/kI7SZnwRCJI

DESCRIPTION:\n\nHappy New Year! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJunior Journalists: Jaslyne and Karen\n\nVideography and Editing by Jaslyne\n\nhttps://youtu.be/CA288C_qGYk\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRose Parade 2018 ~ by Karen S.\, age 12\nFinally\, after months of excruciating hard work\, the rose floats are taking action in Pasadena for the 2018 Rose Parade. Dozens of floats were driven by drivers who navigated by peering through a small\, hidden window somewhere on the float. People on the floats waved\, and the atmosphere was lively with the buzzing and cheering of people. The air was quite chilly but the excited onlookers didn’t seem to mind much. 2018 has finally arrived!\n\nThere was much to see at the parade. Marching bands\, color guards and groups of horses followed after beautiful rose floats from place all over the nation-- some even came from across the world\, such as Kyoto. There were so many activities going on\, but the most memorable was probably the horses and ponies-- not just because the horses were beautiful creatures\, but also partly due to the fact that what they left behind on the street for the cleaners to pick up didn’t give off a particularly pleasant smell. But it was still a great show\, the horses were well groomed and tamed.\n\nAlthough the other events were awesome\, the floats were still the focus point of the rose parade. My favorite float was Donate Life’s float\, called The Gift of Time. On both sides of the magnificent float were pictures\, made with seeds\, of organ donors. The people who received their organs sat on top of the float\, waving. The donors gave the recipients the gift of life time\, so they could continue living. The theme is so meaningful and the float was intricately decorated with bright colors and fancy details.\n\nSingpoli American BD’s float\, Rising Above\, was another one of my personal favorites. Unfortunately\, I did not get to hear Shila Amzah sing the theme song in person\, because the music was not playing when the float passed by our section. Also\, due to the poor cell phone reception\, the AR app\, Metaverse\, could not be used\, so I didn’t get to see the Augmented Reality enabled on the float either. However\, I am sure it is a wonderful display\, because Rising Above won the Sweepstake Award for the parade. On the bright side\, the float was amazing. The fish flapped their fins in the air\, and faint music was playing in the background. Nathan Wang and Shila sat inside a small boat on the front of the float\, wearing lively red traditional Chinese outfits and waving to the cheering crowd.\n\nAfter the floats usually followed a marching band. All the marching bands sounded great and played some really unique music\, but Kyoto Tachibana Senior High’s “marching” band really stood out. Whilst the other bands marched straight forward\, Kyoto Tachibana’s band actually danced to the music\, all while playing their instruments. That must have taken a long time to organize and a ton of practice! I really enjoyed watching their performance.\n\nWow! There is actually a lot more to talk about\, but that would take much longer than this\, so I have told you just the highlights of this experience. If you did not come to the Rose Parade this year\, I highly recommend you go next year (although it is best to purchase your parking permits beforehand and also get there a little earlier so you can get a better seat). It is a fun experience for people of all ages. The theme of the floats this year was “Making a Difference.” What difference do you plan to make this year? Happy 2018\, everyone!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\n\nhttps://youtu.be/Htb5pyistfY\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nRyan L.\n“Snip\, snip\, snip\,” the sound of scissors when cutting flower and volunteers putting them into water tubes. Managers of the floats were giving meticulous orders. Volunteers were rushing to perfect their floats. This is the day when the final preparation of the 129th annual Rose Parade. When arriving at the pavilion\, everyone was lively. The floats were preparing to head out to the Rose Parade. They are nearly done for judging.\n\nThe first float we saw was the Cal Poly University and California State Polytechnic's float. The theme of the float is Dreams Takes Flight. The float had three cute critters-a kola bear\, sea otter\, and a red panda all flying airplanes. We interviewed Edward who is currently a senior majoring in mechanical engineering. He designed the movements of the airplanes on their floats. He told us that the hardest part of designing their float is the dimensions that they were given to work with. As a team\, they have to make the planes move while working within the confines. They took one year to design their float\, now things are looking up!\n\nLet's vroom to the next float. The next float is made by Amazon Prime. The theme is about Make Your Own Momentum. It was based on the famous British TV show The Grand Tour. This is a three-part float with ginormous wheels made of orange crush rose. On the wheel\, there are the eight faces of the Grand Tour presenters. What amazes me is that they use subtle blends of Nigella\, poppy seeds\, and sweet rice to design the presenters' face.\n\nNext is the Singpoli American BD float. The theme of this magnificent float is Rising Above. The tale is based on The Carp and Dragon Gate. This year Singpoli will be the first float to ever have Augmented Reality. I am very excited to test out the new app because once you have the app on your phone you will be able to see animations of fish magically appear on your phone. Also\, you will see fishes jump over the dragon's gate and transforming into powerful dragons. Singer and songwriter Shila Amzah will be singing the theme song\, "Rising Above." The song is written by the famous composer Nathan Wang.\n\nAll of the 44 floats' theme is based on the 2018 Rose Parade theme Making a Difference. We have seen many amazing floats today that were heading out to the road for the judging to begin. All the times and efforts dedicated by volunteers will finally pay off at the parade. Let's start the countdown for the 2018 annual Rose Parade.\n \n  \nKaren S.\nOne day before the big day — one more day until the new year begins! Pasadena is starting off 2018 with a memorable event\, the annual Rose Parade. It’s the day before the parade\, and the designing\, engineering and volunteering teams are in frenzy mode\, perfecting the paint on the floats they are working for and adding the final flowers\, doing final checkups and the works. \n\nInside the Rosemont Pavilion at the Rose Bowl\, where some of the floats are being stored before showtime\, the energy was so strong you could smell it. Literally. There were so many flowers on the floats that the fragrance was almost overwhelming. One of the floats there was Donate Life’s magnificent work\, The Gift of Time. If you check this beautiful rose float out\, there are pictures of many people on a wheel on both sides of the structure. Those pictures are made out of thousands of seeds and are the faces of organ donors. The people riding on the float tomorrow are the recipients of these donors’ organs. So these donors have given people the gift of time for life\, a chance to continue living their lives.\n\nSome other floats in the barn include Amazon Prime’s float\, which is based off of the well-known British television show Top Gear. You can see the float in the video\, with its enormous wheels adorned with orange flowers. Another float is Cal Poly State University’s float\, run by its student volunteers. Today I met Edward\, who designed the movement of the airplane on their float\, themed “Let Your Dreams Take Flight.” He explained the biggest challenge of designing the airplane’s movements\, which you can also hear in the video. \n\nLast but not least\, Singpoli American BD’s float was also kept in the barn for some final touch-ups. Like every other float\, volunteers and workers were busy all around the float. But in case you didn’t know\, Singpoli’s float will be the first of its kind\, because it will enable Augmented Reality. If you download Singpoli’s App and use it to detect the float on the day of the parade\, the float will come to life and display the amazing transformation of a carp trying to jump over the gate over and over again until it finally succeeds and becomes a dragon\, as in the traditional tale of The Carp and the Dragon Gate. Malaysian singer-songwriter Shila Amzah and renowned composer Nathan Wang will be the people riding atop the float\, and Shila will be singing the theme song of the float\, “Rising Above”.\n\nThe theme for the entire Rose Parade for 2018 is Making a Difference. Today\, I’ve only seen a few of the floats that will be featured in the parade. On New Year’s Day\, all the floats that have costed the effort\, time and dedication of many people will be exhibited in their final and best form. There will be many amazing things to see tomorrow\, so grab your chairs and blankets\, some food and a camera\, and enjoy the start of a new year!\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nAmber L.\nToday Ryan\, Karen and I went to the Rose Bowl Float Parade for last-minute preparation viewing. It is very exciting to see the judge select the best one of the year 2018. We visited 5 beautiful floats made of the fragrant-smelling flowers. Let’s check it out!\n\nThe first float has two aircrafts on it\, big orange one and small yellow one. The big one has Koala sitting on it. The small one can tip left and right when float is moving. That is so cute!\n\n2nd float’s main part are 3 pairs of giant wheels connecting by gears. The origin is from the famous British TV show\, “Top Gear”\, sponsored by Amazon Prime. It wants to deliver the same spirit of “Make your own momentum”!\n\nThe third one is “Books Bring Dreams to Life”\, sponsored by UPS Store\, which is the most popular express courier across the country. The float is featured by the humongous Dragon and 2 pirates sailing on the books\, which indicates reading books can explore your imagination to go WILD!!!\n\nThe 4th one is “The Gift of Life” about the 22 human beings who saved many lives by donating organs to the people in life danger. On the float\, there are colorful parrots and a round\, brown flat circle with those respectful people who deserve our memory.\n\nFinally\, the most exciting float is “Rising Above”. The theme is the story of how hard the fish jump over the dragon gate and succeed to turn into the dragon. It tells us “Never give it up”! The specialty of the float is AR Technology APP that can make the fish jump as if it was in front of you. The sponsor is Singpoli American DB who is one of the major vendors in this year! I cannot wait to see it in parade tomorrow!!!\n\nI hope you enjoy my report and hope to see you here on 1st day of 2018!!!

They’re all excited-- this year\, Singpoli’s float will have a special theme that will sing out -- literally -- to many of its audience. The theme “Rising Above” is based on the traditional tale of the carp and the dragon gate that tells a moral to never give up.\n\nThe four people who sat behind the conference table at Hotel Constance were (from left to right) N.D. Lala\, Shila Amzah\, Kin Hui\, and Nathan Wang. Kin Hui\, the CEO of Singpoli Capital Corporation says Singpoli’s float will be the first of its kind\, one that enables AR (Augmented Reality). He has invited Malaysian singer Shila Amzah was invited to perform atop the float on January 1\, 2018 the theme song of the beautiful float\, titled “Rising Above.” The song is composed by the renowned Nathan Wang and lyricized by his son. The song\, as Mr. Wang describes\, is a very inspirational piece of music. It describes how there are many hardships in life\, but if you never give up you will eventually overcome these hardships. \n\nOther speakers at the conference include N.D. Lala\, Shila’s father as well as her manager. He believes the song is very relatable to Shila\, because she has had many obstacles to overcome in her path to fame. The two guest speakers were Kevin Chen\, the CEO of Frankie-- a denim clothing collection\, and Richard Au-Yeung\, who will be directing the music video for the song on the day of the parade.\n\nNathan Wang\, who was successfully invited to compose “Rising Above” for this event\, is famous all over the world. He’s written so much amazing music\, and has won three Emmy Awards. He feels very honored to work with Shila and ride with her on the float on New Years Day.  Shila Amzah\, who won international fame on the popular music show in China I Am a Singer flew on the Philippine Airlines to Los Angeles\, and she excited not only because it is her first time to ride on a rose float\, but also because it is her first time at L.A. “I heard others tell me it is very cold here… but I feel the warmth of the people.”\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/EYbTdY4uvd8\n\n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Rose Parade Float by Singpoli American BD ~~ a Junior Journalist report at Rose Bowl
\nAugmented reality float brings Rose Parade into the future\nWhen the Rose Parade was first launched in the 19th Century\, it showcased entertainment innovations that would define New Year’s Day for millions of Americans. 128 years later\, the Rose Parade will take a leap into the future when it debuts its first ever float to use augmented reality.\n\n“Rising Above\,” sponsored by Arcadia-based Singpoli Capital Corporation and American BD Investment Group\, will feature fully animated carp animatronics\, waterfalls and mist effects. However\, viewers both along the parade route and at home will be able to scan the float with a special app\, designed by Pasadena developer Interactivism. From there\, they’ll be able to interact with characters from the float\, and follow along the classic Chinese tale of a fish who transforms into dragons.\n\n“Rising Above” will join other parade regulars\, such as Donate Life\, Kiwanis International\, Lions Club and many local cities. 39 floats have been announced so far\, setting a high bar for Singpoli’s augmented reality float to beat.\n\n\n\n \n\nDigital product design agency in Pasadena. Interactivism developed an app that could scan the float\, and provide additional animations. Those character animations can also feature in selfies that can be shared across social media platforms. Visitors to the float after the parade will be able to enjoy the experience.\n\nInteractivism also made sure that users wouldn’t need clunky headsets or equipment\, which can often prove a barrier to augmented reality. The app will be available at Singpoli’s augmented reality website for both Android and iOS\, with instructions going live on Dec. 22. Cesario said that the app will be as easy to use as any phone’s camera.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/JfZzTviJao8\n\n\n\nReport from Isabel Lau\n\nIt's just about time to say hello to the new year! Since 1890\, the Pasadena Rose Parade has been held on the New Years. Various companies have created gorgeous floats for the parade. Today\, a few junior journalists and I got the opportunity to go to the 2018 Singpoli American BD rose parade float press conference and talk to the team behind the float.\nThis 2018 will be Singpoli American BD Company’s fifth year entering the annual Pasadena Rose parade. For all the years that Singpoli has been doing the rose parade\, Paradiso Float design. All of Singpoli’s floats have won awards: the Extraordinaire Trophy in 2015\, the Sweepstakes Trophy in 2016\, and the Fantasy Trophy in 2017.\nThis year\, the Singpoli float is based on the legend of the dragon gate. The tale tells of fish that go through struggle and must persist through difficult waters to jump over the dragon's gate to become a magnificent dragon. This is also the first ever float to incorporate AR (Augmented Reality) into the float. Singpoli and Paradiso teamed up with Interactivism\, a digital product design agency based in Pasadena\, California. The float is quite large and has multiple fish decorated colorfully\, eight waterfalls plus mist\, a detailed replica of the dragon's gate\, and more. Malaysian pop star Shila Amzah will be on the float performing the theme song of the float titled “Rising Above” composed by Nathan Wang.\nAfter the educational press conference\, all the reporters\, journalists\, and cameramen rushed to get interviews with the speakers. Though it was quite competitive\, we managed to grab Charles Meier from Paradiso Float Design who had designed the float; Kin Hui\, the CEO of Singpoli American BD; and Ms. Cesario\, a representative of Interactivism.\nI had a great\, educational experience at the press conference and got a sneak peek at a float that will be proudly displayed. I got the opportunity to meet the people behind the float and learn all about the tale and about the AR technology that's added to the float this year. Make sure to catch the Rose Parade on January 2nd\, 2018!\n\n\n\nReport from Shawn Lo\nEach year the city of Pasadena has a breathtaking event called the Rose Parade. Each float shows an amazing amount of creativity\, and colors. The float of Singpoli American BD is an example of what a float would look like in this year's 2018 Rose Parade. I got to speak to some of the people who put their effort to make success in the float of Singpoli American Bd. Their float is a taste of Chinese culture.\nOne of the most important person in the organization is Kin Hui\, the CEO of Singpoli American BD. I got the opportunity to learn from him about his float. This year they designed an app that uses the augmented reality technology. It allows you to see special effects over their float. "Our float is a reminder that even though our journeys can be difficult\, and painful\, we can rise above adversity" said Kin Hui. His quote means that to accomplish a goal you must go through difficulties\, and hard effort to achieve it. Mr. Hui\, and his team put hard effort to make the float what it is now. Riding the float is Shila Amzah. She will sing the song "Rising Above" which is written by an award-winning composer Nathan Wang.\n\nThe float comes with a app that is able to view the float like never before. It uses augmented reality\, and viewers will be able to see the float in aue of the special affects added to the float on their phones. Beautiful animations of fish with bright colors\, and it will make the story of the float come to life. I talked with Ms. Cesario from Interactivism of the app\, about the app. If you pointed your phone at the float you can see the spectacular animation that is the highlight of the float. You can experience looking at the float in a new way! The stimulating experience will not only let you see the float in an amazing way\, you will also be able to take photos with the app\, and share it with friends\, and family members.\n\nAnother person I interviewed was award winning float designer Charles Meier. "The theme of the Rose Parade this year is "Making a Difference" said Charles Meier. The float based is a story of the Dragon Gate. The story is about the fish that search for the source of the Yellow River\, which is the Dragon Gate. The fish have to come across a lot of hard effort. I interviewed Charles Meier about how he came up with this design. You must take time to see the world around you\, and when you open your eyes\, and make something of your own the beauty comes to you. The float captures the scene of the story where the fish try to jump over the Dragon gate\, so they could become dragons. The float shows three magnificent statues of fish with the colors red\, orange\, yellow and white all blended into their scales\, trying to jump over the gate. The float has waterfalls that make the scene more realistic. The fish wobble as if they were alive\, and were trying to become a dragon.\n\nWhat I learned from this interview is that if you want to achieve something great you need to work as a team\, and be resistant to overcome hardship in our life.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
