對於許多孩子來說，小時候在睡床上聽父母閱讀是一種童年珍貴的儀式和回憶，可是很多時候當孩子稍微長大（其實也不過就八、九歲），能自己閱讀文字書之後，大部分爸媽就停止了這個甜蜜而美好的親子活動。
教育專家研究顯示，83％ 的 6-17歲孩子享受由父母唸書給他們聽，可惜的是，只有17％ 的 9-11歲孩子仍然獲得父母經常朗讀給孩子聽。
其實，小朋友無論幾歲，都仍然喜歡爸媽在床前唸書給他聽，這個美好的時刻，實在不應該太早結束，何況，它還有好多好處呢！～
體驗故事的快樂
正在讀小學的孩子，需要閱讀由老師指定的故事書和課本，但是睡前故事可不一樣，由爸媽娓娓讀來的故事，沒有功課和學習的成分，讓孩子完全享受故事本身的情節，沉浸在故事的氣氛中。
幫助擴大孩子的詞彙量
對10歲以下的孩子來說，他們的聽覺理解力比閱讀理解能力要高。父母可以選擇一本稍微深奧的書來挑戰孩子，通過閱讀，讓孩子聽到大量新的詞彙單詞，大大延伸孩子的語言發展。
為孩子介紹新作家和新系列
有些孩子對選書的愛好比較單一，常常只看某幾位作家的書，父母可以選讀一位新作家或一個全新系列的故事書，幫孩子擴大閱讀的品味和喜好。
