DESCRIPTION:The Whittier Uptown Association invites you and your family to our\n\n65th Annual Uptown Whittier Christmas Parade\n\nSaturday\, December 8\, 2018 from 10am to 12noon.\n\nThis year's theme is "Christmas Around the World"\n\n�\n\nOur parade attracts over 15\,000 visitors from Whittier and surrounding communities. Many attend to see their friends and family walk though this historic event. Entries include marching bands\, vintage autos\, floats\, dance troupes\, drill teams and more. Santa Clause always makes his appearance at the end of the event.\n\nWe will be announcing our Grand and Celebrity Grand Marshalls shortly along with special guest.\n\nBands will not be judged this year. However\, float entries will be judged based on our theme\, originality and creativity. Certificates for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded after the parade.\n\nPlan on arriving as early as early as possible. Families arrive as early as 7am to select their favorite spot. Many restaurants will be open early in the morning to accommodate the crowds. Parade route starts at Hadley St and Greenleaf Ave and ends at Mar Vista St and Washington Ave\, near the Whittier Community Center.

DESCRIPTION:In 1990\, Christmas Tree Lane was listed in the National Register of Historic Places and became California State Landmark. Of particular interest to those who were reviewing the application\, it was noted that Christmas Tree Lane brought about the singularly significant social convergence of two relatively new commodities: the outdoor electric light and the automobile. Christmas Tree Lane is also recognized as the only botanical landmark on the State Registry.\n\nIn the years since 2000\, when California electrical utilities were deregulated\, CTLA has been struggling to keep the Lane alive. While in the past the power was donated by Southern California Edison\, the Association now faces utility bills for the Lane. Several years ago\, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich provided funds for upgrading the electrical grids and systems\, but the issue of electricity bills as well as costly liability insurance remain a constant threat to the survival of the Lane. Support of the community\, including volunteering on the Lane and contributing through membership\, is the only way CTLA can keep the Lane lighted for many holiday seasons to come.

Houses are alight with trains\, reindeer\, giant characters\, and music\, plus frequent appearances by Santa Claus in a covered sleigh at the end of the cul-de-sac. The lights are on by 6pm (though most turn on at dusk); Santa usually sits down in his sleigh at about 7pm.\n\nThe street itself is closed to cars\, making for a delightful\, one-block family stroll\, and parking is available throughout the rest of the (well decorated) neighborhood. The last night of the official display is usually December 23\, keeping the street more private for the actual holiday.

DESCRIPTION:The Channel Islands Harbor will kick off the holidays with its 53rd annual holiday Parade of Lights\, themed “Heroes on Holiday.” The event is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m.. The parade starts at 7 p.m.\n\nEveryone is invited to enjoy a full day of holiday activities and watch festively decorated boats in the parade while listening to carolers sing holiday songs.\n\nBeginning at 10 a.m.\, families can play in tons of snow falling at the north end of Harbor View Park\, off Harbor Blvd. near Marine Emporium Landing\, 3600 Harbor Blvd. Santa will be there from noon – 4 p.m. and will take pictures with families free of charge. There will also be holiday arts and crafts vendors starting at 10 a.m.\n\nAt 6 p.m.\, join Santa Claus and holiday carolers at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum and witness the first ever “Lighting the Mast at the Maritime Museum.”\n\nThe parade starts at 7 p.m. in front of Peninsula Park and heads to the Main Channel\, turns at Kiddie Beach\, loops in front of the launch ramp then heads back to Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club and repeats the route for a second run. The parade can be viewed from parks and walkways that line the route as well as from most Harbor restaurants. Boat charters are available for those who want to watch the parade from the water.
